The dried, immature berries of the black peppercorn vine. They are considered to have more flavour and less heat than black pepper.

They can be coarse ground in a hand pepper mill or used whole as they soften in water.

They are widely used in Indian cooking, and can be used in marinades, sauces, pickles and with meat or fish.
